Lena Normén-Younger, President & Founder
Lena is the founder of SMUL and has been the President since the association was officially registered in 2020. After spending the years 1999-2023 abroad, Lena has now returned to Värmland. She has a PhD in clinical nutrition and has worked in clinical research and business. In 2019-2023, Lena trained as a certified speech therapist and now runs the company Mind The Mind. Previously, Lena has been the President of the local chapter of the Swedish Women’s Educational Association in Vancouver (SWEA Vancouver), and Sweden House.

Marinette Sedin, Vice President
Marinette is originally from Örnsköldsvik and has lived in Vancouver since 2001. She is a teacher at the Swedish School and a board member of SWEA Vancouver. She also teaches English at the Canucks Family Education Center. Marinette, along with her family, founded The Sedin Family Foundation, which partners with schools, community groups and social services to identify needs and create creative solutions for children and families.

Malin Benoit-Åkerman, Treasurer
Malin has previously been a board member of the Swedish Club of Ottawa and President and teacher at the Swedish School in Ottawa. She is a trained accountant and has worked at Ernst & Young. With her experience in finance and organization, Malin brings strong financial expertise to the SMUL Board.

Anna Jackson, Member at large
Anna is a trained immigration lawyer and works as Vice Consul at the Swedish Consulate in Vancouver, Canada. She has a strong interest in the Swedish language and wants to help children born abroad to a Swedish parent to develop their language skills. Anna is also passionate about maintaining Swedish traditions and culture for Swedes abroad and wants to help strengthen the Swedish identity of future generations.

Mikael Lindberg, Member at large
Mikael has previously worked as a teacher at SMUL and continues to have a close insight into the organization through his wife who still teaches there. Mikael is the principal of two independent schools in Sweden and has extensive experience with government grants and education regulations. His aim is to strengthen and develop the education side of SMUL and contribute to the continued success of the organization.

Anette Larsson, Member at large
Anette has a background in both the technology and food industries and has worked internationally in several different countries. She has a master’s degree in engineering from KTH and currently runs her own company, where she helps other organizations to develop. Anette is passionate about business development and personal growth and wants to contribute her experience and problem-solving skills to SMUL’s board.

Moa Wirde, Member at large
Moa has been living in London since 2002 and has been following SMUL’s work for several years. She works part-time as Marketing Director at Convosphere, a company specializing in digital market research. With experience in strategic communications, content marketing and brand development, Moa is keen to contribute to SMUL’s visibility and growth, particularly within the SMUL Academy.

Anna-Brita Wahlin, Member at large
Anna-Brita lives in Canada and her daughter has just started at the SMUL Academy. Anna-Brita is a trained nurse and massage therapist and has lived abroad in Spain and Australia before moving to Canada. She is passionate about strengthening her children’s Swedish identity and wants to contribute to SMUL’s work through volunteering and board involvement.
